On 8 and 9 October, members of the Commission for Actions of Resistance of the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity (MPJD) arrived once again in Chiapas to participate in the Days for Youth “Sowing seeds of non-violence” that was to be carried out in the community of Acteal in Chenalhó as well as express its solidarity with the Zapatista support-bases in San Patricio, autonomous municipality of La Dignidad, which pertains to the Roberto Barrios caracol (northern zone of the state).  Following the press-conference carried out in the offices of the Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas Center for Human Rights, the members of the MPJD also went to greet the relatives of prisoners who have been on hunger strike since 29 September.  These relatives have installed an indefinite sit-in protest in demand of the release of the prisoners in the Cathedral plaza of San Cristóbal de Las Casas.

In a public letter, the representation of the MPJD reported that “it is our intention as a movement to demand that all authorities from the federal government and the Chiapas state government immediately guarantee the life and integrity of all EZLN support-bases, particularly regarding the autonomous community of San Patricio, that free access and respect for the land of this community be had, given that we consider this aggression to be an attack not only on the Zapatista support-bases but also against one of the hopes for the reconstruction of the country: autonomy.”

To Las Abejas of Acteal, the commission expressed that “you should know that you have our solidarity and respect for your path, and that our heart and spirit are profoundly gladdened to know that we are beginning these steps together.  Hopefully there will be many more steps; we hope to begin to end this war that the governments have imposed in Mexico without consulting us.  In place of the dead we place ourselves, civil society.”

To the prisoners on hunger strike and fasting in the San Cristóbal prison, the MPJD says that “We recognize fully the fasting and hunger strike as two greatly radical forms of struggle, moral and physical, that seek to bring to light the truth and to touch the conscience of those engaged in it as well as that of the adversaries.  We trust fully that this hunger strike and fast that you have undertaken will bear the fruit we all await as before.  We hope to meet again in an embrace of solidarity and liberty.”
