On 14 August, Zapatista Comandate Tacho read a brief communique released by the Clandestine Revolutionary Indigenous Committee of the General Command of the EZLN (CCRI-CG EZLN) before the students attending the Zapatista “Escuelita” (school), with their respective guardians in the CIDECI-Unitierra, located in San Cristóbal de Las Casas. He reported that “on 12 and 13 August during the night, military planes were flying over the five Zapatista caracoles, where the course ‘Freedom according to the Zapatistas’ is taking place.” He added that “perhaps it is that, serving their master, the Mexican soldiers are spying for the U.S. government, or the U.S. planes are directly spying themselves. Or maybe it is that the soldiers want to know what it is that is taught in the Zapatista communities to those whom they have attacked so much without being able to destroy.”
Sine 11 August, some 1700 people from different states of Mexico and other countries have been meeting in communities associated with the five Zapatista caracoles to participate in the “Escuelita” which will end on Friday 16 August.
