On August 12th, relatives of the 43 students from the Ayotzinapa Rural Normal School in Iguala in 2014 met with the President of the Republic, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) at the National Palace in the Mexican capital.
During the meeting, a document was read and handed over by the parents of the 43 in which they asked the President for his government to speed up the arrest of those who were involved in the aggression; “With all due respect, we declare that it is now necessary to carry out arrests and initiate the corresponding criminal proceedings, because being told that accusations will be presented or that they have already been presented, but without results, is worrying. Prioritizing the accusations and arrests of the most relevant and strategic is a step that can no longer be postponed.”
They also asked the government to continue with field searches to find the whereabouts of the students. They recalled the previous manipulation of the investigation by law enforcement institutions: “the recent genetic identification of one of the student teachers is news that, even when it means an advance in the investigation, fills us with pain. It also confirms that the previous administration wanted to lie and deceive us”, they stressed. For this reason, they emphasized that they do not want a new “historical truth” that seeks to close the case.
