Chiapas: Report on Situation in Nuevo San Gregorio

@ Sipaz

On March 1st, organizations, groups and networks adhering to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandona Jungle presented a report to denounce the attacks, threats and harassment against the support bases of Nuevo San Gregorio.

Through the Solidarity Caravan that has been carried out for several months, actions against support base families have been documented “that threaten physical and mental health, against their right to food, destruction of nature and theft of reclaimed land”, preventing the Zapatista families from planting and harvesting their food.

In addition, these attacks have been increasing since the opposing group exercises constant surveillance and harassment, especially against women. They position themselves in places from where they watch and take photos and in recent events, they have cut off the water supply for the crops.

The organizations also mentioned that, given these actions, the federal government and the aggressor groups have complicity, especially because it is the communities and peoples who oppose the policies of destruction and dispossession, planned and carried out by the government of the Fourth Transformation, the same government that responds to a logic of imposition of projects that go “against nature and life itself, giving continuity to the policies of territorial dispossession from long ago.”
