On November 12th, members of the Regional Organization of Coffee Growers of Ocosingo (ORCAO) released Felix Lopez Hernandez, a support base of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN), “kidnapped” on the 8th from the San Isidro Community. He was handed over to representatives of the Fray Bartolome de Las Casas Center for Human Rights (Frayba), who on the same day released the following message: “Felix Lopez Hernandez, the Zapatista support base from Moises Gandhi is at liberty. Your solidarity made it possible to guarantee hisrights.”
According to civil organizations, Feliz Lopez was “kidnapped, beaten and tortured” by members of the ORCAO, who kept him “tied up, locked up, without water and without food.” On the other hand, according to information based on official sources from La Jornada, ORCAO requested the intervention of the authorities so that a negotiation table be set up to discuss the issue.
The day before, various organizations, collectives and individuals from Mexico City and the State of Mexico demonstrated in the Mexican capital “to repudiate this new paramilitary aggression against the Zapatista support bases, to denounce the complicity of the municipal, state and federal governments with the attackers, and to demand that the Lopez Obrador government end “the war against the Zapatistas” and the indigenous communities that oppose their neoliberal megaprojects.”
