At a press conferencn September 21st, the Fray Bartolome de Las Casas Center for Human Rights (FrayBa) indicated the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) and the Chiapas State Prosecutor’s Office (FGECH) of being “accomplices in falsification of evidence” in the case of Yonny Ronay Chacon Gonzalez, who in 2019 was illegally detained and tortured.
At the conference it was detailed that Yonny was detained and tortured by members of the High Impact Prosecutor’s Office (FAI) of the FGECH between March 13th and 15th, 2019. On March 14th of that same year, “he was shown in the media, with photographs obtained through the FAI, as a member of an organized crime gang, in possession of high caliber weapons and as the person responsible for a homicide in Villaflores, Chiapas.”
Despite having determined his release the following day, during the hours he was detained, the Fraylesca District Attorney’s Office fabricated evidence to accuse Yonny of qualified murder, for which he was arrested again. In addition, his testimony was falsified to accuse two other people of the crime of robbery, a crime for which they are now imprisoned.
The evidence that proves that Yonny Ronay was a victim of physical and psychological torture, and arbitrary deprivation of liberty, “can be found in the investigation file that includes medical certificates that confirm the injuries caused to him.” However, on September 6th, 2021, he was sentenced to 31 years and six months in prison.
Here you can see the statement from Yonny’s family.
