In a statement published on September 14th, the AJMAQ Resistance and Rebellion Network made up of a dozen organizations and groups, denounced that since September 11th, members of the Regional Organization of Coffee Growers of Ocosingo (ORCAO), retained two members of the Good Governance Council (JBG) Patria Nueva, municipality of Ocosingo. Jose Antonio Sanchez Juarez and Sebastian Núñez Perez had left the headquarters of said Council to carry out a task in another location entrusted by that authority.
“Upon receiving no information, the JBG began a search process, locating the truck in the 7 de Febrero community, Ocosingo municipality, headquarters of ORCAO, where, according to information, the two people were detained in what has been legitimately Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) territory and where the El Arco Iris cooperative store was placed as part of the expression of the autonomous Zapatista economy”, the statement explained.
Until the following night, the JBG had not “been able to see the detainees, verify their state of health, or verify the place where they are, so they are classified as disappeared”, said the Network.
AJMAG pointed out in its letter that “the ORCAO has perpetrated a series of criminal actions against the EZLN Support Bases of the Moises Gandhi autonomous community for several months, the most despicable acts being, those registered since August 2020, where the looting, robbery, destruction and burning of the autonomous cooperative store El Arco Iris was carried out in a violent manner, as well as the kidnapping of Felix Lopez Hernandez on November 8th, 2020 and two members of the Fray Bartolome de Las Casas Center for Human Rights on April 12th of this year.”
It considered that “this escalation of violence orchestrated from the high powers of the federal government is part of the initiative of the EZLN Journey for Life, Europe Chapter, which seeks to expand, in a peaceful and creative way, the seed of resistance-rebellion for humanity and Mother Earth, that is, for life.” Finally, the Network demanded the presentation of the detained people alive.
