Chiapas: Presentation of III Report on Situation in Nuevo San Gregorio by Solidarity Caravan

@SIPAZ

On January 12th, a press conference was held at the Fray Bartolomé de las Casas Center for Human Rights (Frayba), called by the AJMAC Network of Resistance and Rebellion, adherent to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle, in order to present the Third Report of the “Solidarity Caravan, Observation and Documentation” that took place on January 8th and 9th, 2022 in the Nuevo San Gregorio community of the Lucio Cabañas Zapatista Autonomous Municipality.

During the press conference, they denounced the continuing aggressions, threats and harassment of which girls, boys, women and men, residents of said community have been victims by the group called “The 40 Invaders”.

This situation began in November 2019 when the group of 40 surrounded the workers and the autonomous secondary school with the fruit trees and medicinal plants that were found there. In February 2020, members of the community and the Good Government Council tried to establish a dialogue with the invaders, making proposals about the work and distribution of the land, but these were rejected. Since then, the attacks have not stopped and they point out that “the bad government continues to be negligent in the face of the complaints and convincing evidence of the criminal actions carried out by these people.”

For this reason, they called on organizations, groups and society in general to join the dissemination campaign that they will be carrying out during the month of January in order to publicize and denounce the situation in this region, “to let the Zapatista families know that they are not alone and to show our organization/networking in the face of this war against life and the autonomy of the Zapatista peoples.”

At the end of the press conference, they presented a documentary video with testimonies collected during the Caravan and called for an urgent dissemination action, reiterating the invitation to share the materials presented.
